Constructed as a railroad bridge in 1977 that carried ash from the H.L. Spurlock Power Plant to a landfill, the span was converted into a truck-only bridge in 1997.1 The project required the removal of existing rails, ballast and walkway down to the plate girder beams, and the installation of new structural elements, concrete decking and gravel roadway.
