Tyrone Bridge (US 62)
The Tyrone Bridge carries US 62 across the Kentucky River between Anderson and Woodford counties in Kentucky. The three-span Warren deck truss crossing is one of two S-bridges of its type in the world and the only one of its type in the United States. 1
Constructed in 1932 by the Virginia Bridge Company, the Tyrone Bridge was dedicated to Joseph Clay Styles Blackburn, a former United States congressman, senator, and governor of the Panama Canal Zone who lived from 1838 to 1918. 1
On May 30, 2006, the bridge was closed to traffic for a $5.5 million rehabilitation project that involved the removal and replacement of the bridge deck, the widening of the bridge deck by two feet, and installation of new bridge railings identical to previous. 1 The Tyrone Bridge reopened to traffic during the week of October 17 but was rededicated on October 26, well before a November 10 deadline.
