Carl D. Perkins Bridge (Truck US 23, OH 852)
Opened in 1988, the two-lane Carl D. Perkins Bridge connects Kentucky State Route 8 in South Portsmouth, with U.S. Route 52 and Ohio State Routes 73 and 104 via Ohio State Route 852 in West Portsmouth. Two miles of Kentucky State Route 8 were widened to four-lanes from U.S. Route 23 to the new span, and the bridge and the new approach was given the Truck U.S. Route 23 designation.The bridge is named after Carl Perkins, a former U.S. Representative from eastern Kentucky who was first elected in 1948.
