Walcott Covered Bridge

Walcott Covered Bridge

The Walcott Covered Bridge, a covered Kingpost and Queenpost span, crosses Locust Creek in Walcott, Kentucky.

Constructed in 1824, the Walcott Covered Bridge was rebuilt in 1881 as a 74-foot Kingpost and Queenpost truss. 1 2 3 The private, tolled crossing was bypassed with a state-constructed concrete bridge in 1954.

The Walcott Covered Bridge was later transferred to the Bracken County Historical Society and then to the Kentucky Department of Parks in 1993. 1 It was damaged in repeated floods in 1997 and 1998. In 2002, the damaged crossing was relocated 400 feet east to a park and reconstructed with mostly new materials. 1
