By 1876, the road between Gosport and Cloverdale was heavily traveled, serving multiple churches, schools, and nearby homes and businesses along Mill Creek. 1 In March 1898, the Owen County Board of Commissioners approved construction of a fixed steel bridge, specifying a 125-foot span with a 14-foot clear roadway. Sixteen firms submitted bids when the contract was let on May 2, and the Rochester Bridge Company of Rochester, Indiana, secured the project with a low bid of $2,450 for a steel and wrought-iron bridge. Around 1910, a riveted pony-truss span was added by the Vincennes Bridge Company.

The bridge was rehabilitated in 2005.
