It’s been said that without the trees, mountains, fogs, or rains, the sun cannot create its own magic. On this mystical morning, the fog enveloping the New River Gorge Bridge was picture-perfect but I knew its time was short. Within minutes of taking these aerials, the thick fog had disappeared, replaced by a wide expanse of crystal clear skies.

The juxtaposition of the new and old, of glossy black paint and rust, and of streamlined design and complexity provide fodder for captivating photography—especially as one of the crossings is nearing the end of its serviceable life.
