Fog Lift at Hawks Nest Railroad Bridge

The passing of a heavy shower allowed for some passing fog that rapidly eased over the nearby mountaintops at Hawks Nest State Park in West Virginia. At its base, over the New River, are two Parker through trusses that carry CSX Railroad and Amtrak.

The original Hawks Nest Bridge, completed in 1872, was a wood truss variant. It was replaced with steel variants in 1892 and the crossing was partly reconstructed circa 1930 to accommodate a higher water level because of the construction of an adjacent hydroelectric power plant and dam.
