Sunsets Over Charleston

The sun sets over the Eugene A. Carter Memorial Bridge on another evening in Charleston, the capital city of West Virginia. In the background is the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta which made a return to the Capital City after a 14-year hiatus. The much-loved five-day river and music festival did not disappoint, bringing in over 200,000 eventgoers to this beautiful city and $31 million in economic impact.

The crossing carries Interstate 64 and US Route 119 across the Kanawha River and opened to traffic in 1974. Interstate 64 fully opened through Charleston in 1976 after all work wrapped up on the Fort Hill Bridge, adjoining viaduct, and two system interchanges.
