The one-lane Pratt through truss was designed by William H. Harrison, chief engineer of the Queen City Bridge Company and Cincinnati’s City Engineer from 1872 to 1889. 1 It was constructed in 1888 by the Queen City Bridge Company.

In August 1988, trucks were prohibited from using the bridge due to structural deterioration. 3 Between August 1989 and February 1990, the Langenheim & Thomson Company rehabilitated the structure at a cost of $570,000. 2 4 5 The project included adding a steel stringer to increase load capacity and replacing the deck with metal grating to reduce weight. 2 4

The Blome Road Bridge was designated a historic landmark by the Indian Hill Historical Society in 1991. 7

A more extensive rehabilitation took place in 2022. 6 The project replaced the load-bearing steel stringer beams with concrete beams, removed and hot-dip galvanized all steel components, slightly widened the bridge, and replaced the roadway deck. The work was designed by Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Engineers, carried out by Evers Steel Construction, and the galvanization was completed by V&S Columbus Galvanizing.

The Blome Road Bridge is likely the last surviving structure built by the Queen City Bridge Company. 6
